Cut off Nnamdi Kanu, Sunday Igboho’s excesses, N/East group urge FG
The North East Development Association (NEDA), a socio-cultural group promoting peace, security, growth and development in the six Northeast states has urged the Federal Government to cut off Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho’s excesses which is threatening the unity of the country.
Briefing newsmen after its conventional sitting on Saturday in Gombe, Comrade Bitako Abubakar Umar, the Secretary-General of the group said doing such would serve as a good lesson to others who may want to undermine the sovereignty of the nation and constituting internal aggression.
Umar said the activities of Kanu’s IPOB and Sunday Igboho’s movement for the creation of Oduduwa Republic, if not cut short and completely rooted out with no remnants may result to another civil war in Nigeria.
The group tasked the Federal Government to expedite the trial of the self-acclaimed IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
He said, “The case of Nnamdi Kanu is indeed a case of treasonable felony considering the gravity of atrocities committed by his men in the South Eastern Region which includes: killings of Nigerian Security men and women serving in the region, wanton destruction of State, public properties, holding hostages amongst others which are out right unlawful and should not be treated with levity.
“ We urge the FG to give his (Kanu’s) case a speedy trial and prosecute him according to the charges labelled against him so as to serve as deterrents to others, failure to do so will send bad signal to his cohorts.”
The group condemned all forms of agitation to disrupt the peace of the nation while also frowning at the harassment of Northerners living in other parts of the country.
While commending President Muhammadu Buhari, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Director General of the State Security Services (DSS) and all other agencies that assisted in the apprehension and onward repatriation of Nnamdi Kanu to Nigeria for the continuation of his trial, the group urge the FG not to spear Igboho and his accomplices from being apprehended and prosecuted in line with the law of the land.
