Gombe United draws 1-1 with Sokoto United

Gombe United on Sunday, witnessed another vital away point after forcing Sokoto United to a 1-1 draw in the week 21 fixture of ongoing Nigeria National League (NNL) played at the Giginya stadium, Sokoto.
The first half ended goalless as the Savannah Scorpions despite dictating the pace of the game failed to utilized pocket of chances created.
They came back into the second stanza more rejuvenated as they tried to unbundled the defense line of the hosts and their efforts was rewarded in the sixty one minute when Samuel Chukwudi who just came in fired a thurnderbolt free kick which left goalkeeper panicking as the ball landed into the net .
The visitors however equalised in the seventy six minutes through Muhsin Attahiru who scored through a penalty kick.
Zakari Aminu from Kano state blown the final whistle of the game after the expiration of the additional five minutes.
Speaking, Gombe United Technical Adviser Aliyu Zubairu, expressed gratitude to God as he hailed his boys.
He said, “First of all,my sincere gratitude to the almighty Allah for the draw; you know no matter how good you’re, it’s him that decides on everything”. “I must also commended my players for playing according to instructions.”
While appraising the future of the team Zubairu, the next match would be a must win for the team.
“Well! As you can see our next target is to win our Aiteo Cup round of 16 fixture against Katsina United on Wednesday in Kaduna, then we’ll turn our attention on our final league at home with Rarara Fc which is a must – win if we’re to solidified our stand on the table.
“The team has been doing well since the kicked off of the season, we only lost one match in twenty one games; won all our home matches;won two away and drew six away matches”. “This is unprecedented and a record in the NNL”.
“I know our Governor is a sports loving person and I have no doubt he will continue to give us necessary support, both financially and morally,” he added.
