APC Congress: Be ready to accept defeat -Gov Yahaya
Chima Azubuike, Gombe
Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, has said people who refused to align with the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), would not be coerced to join.
According to Yahaya, Nigeria operates a democratic system, therefore, there won’t be need to compel Association, adding that such people should be willing to accept defeat.

The governor made this disclosure on Sunday, during an affirmation exercise led by Ward congress National committee chairman Dr. Danjuma Dabo, at Jekadafari.
“Nigeria is a democracy, we are not coercing anybody to come to join APC, and we are for the people. So let them come to contest but once you are beaten hands down you must accept it,” he said.
Yahaya lauded the peaceful conduct of the exercise, adding that the state opted for consensus through affirmation.
He added, “The leadership has emerged and you can see that we followed due process. We earlier on held stakeholders meeting where we resolved that we should go by consensus and affirmation. What we came here to do is to affirm what the people at the grassroots did. We affirm that consensus should be taken by the people here in Jekadafari ward. This is being done elsewhere in the state across the 114 wards.
“We have finally reached the stage where we start the process of transforming our leadership preparatory to 2023 we are transforming leadership from ward, local government, state and national level. We are complying with the advice and guidelines as stipulated by the constitution of the party and guidelines issued by the National headquarters of our party. Our general consensus and believe is that we are holding the state and we are in controll Inshallah, we will continue to dominate the political landscape of Gombe state, and Nigeria at large come 2023.”
Also, National APC ward chairman, Dabo, said he was impressed with the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
Dabo said, “We have seen the smooth conduct of the congresses, it rancor free, already the results are coming in and we are satisfied with the way they have handled the congresses at the different wards we have monitored.”
Commenting on why the party chose to affirm on Sunday, a day after the slated Congress, he added, “You are aware it is happening today but we are aware that we started yesterday. We started yesterday with documentation and we had to set the committee of three by the time we let them go for the conduct, it was already 11am. You can imagine the distances to the Ward. It is not an election that is time bound but it is an affirmation and all through we don’t have an problems.”
