Gombe monarchs warn against political thuggery, violence

Traditional rulers from Gombe Central Senatorial district on Monday, appealed to politicians to sheathe their swords and embrace peace.

The monarchs also warned against practices of thuggery, violence, urging key political actors to eschew politics of bitterness.
According to a communique read on behalf of the group, Lamido Akko, Alh. Umar Atiku, also expressed unflinching support for the Muhammadu Yahaya administration, adding that the state has witnessed stability and progress within the last two years.
Atiku said, “Furtherance to the pursuit of our collective desire as traditional rulers and custodians of our cultural heritage in ensuring the overall maintenance of peace, unity, stability and progress of our respective communities, Gombe State and the nation as a whole.
“We the Emirs alongside our District Heads of Gombe Central Senatorial District, having met, discussed and review the current happenings in the state as they positively impact on the lives of our people under the leadership of our amiable Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya.
“As traditional heads of our various communities who are closer to the grassroots, we must commend the state Governor on the way and manner he handles the issue of Security dispassionately, thus making our roles easier as peace is a necessary prerequisite for development.
“As traditional rulers and custodians of our culture, we deem it right to appeal to all our politicians to shun the politics of violence, thuggery, bitterness and divisive tendencies among the political class. On our part, we resolved to maintain our sacred integrity and image by being non-partisan,” Atiku said.
While commending the governor for increasing their remuneration after many years, the group stressed that they would use powers within their arsenal to maintain peace.
Lamido Akko added, “We further commend and appreciate Governor Inuwa Yahaya’ s positive performance and result-oriented policies that have direct bearing on our people in all sectors.
“We restate and re-affirm our unflinching loyalty to his administration efforts in uplifting our state to greater heights. As traditional rulers, we shall continue to support the overall policies and programmes of the administration.
“We wish to acknowledge that for the first time in the history of the State, the State Government under the able leadership of His Excellency, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya has directed and implemented an upward review of our remuneration and welfare.”
According to him, “We finally resolved to individually and collectively cultivate more areas of genuine co-operation and relationship amongst us and to explore avenues towards maintaining peaceful co-existence among our people, irrespective of tribe, religion or sect in line with the spirit of Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya’s determination to provide good governance and leadership by example in the State.”
