Gombe SWAN hails United players, govt

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Gombe state chapter on Friday, hailed the sterling performances of Gombe United Football Club.
According to a press statement obtained by our correspondent, which was signed jointly by the chapter’s Chairman, and Secretary Halilu Mohammed Teli, Peter Uwumarogie respectively, lauding the boys for coming out tops of group A1 of 2020/2021 Nigeria National League (NNL).
SWAN stressed that the players demonstrated zeal, commitment, while lauding the efforts of their gaffers.
The statement partly stated, “We herewith congratulate as well as commend Gombe United Football Club for coming out top of Group A1 of the 2020/2021 Nigeria National League (NNL) while calling on the state government to support the team ahead of the Super Eight playoff.
“Playing (18) matches with (10) wins, (7) draws and a loss to secure top spot with (37) points, is a demonstration of commitment, zeal and sacrifice and for that we salute the players, coaches and the entire Management of the club.”
The duo added that the success of the team would not have been achieved without the impactful leadership of Gombe State Governor, adding that well meaning individuals should take a queue in supporting the development of football.
“We also recognise and appreciate the relentless efforts of the state government under the leadership of his excellency Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya through out the Savannah Scorpion’s NNL campaign.
“However, the real test and race for the promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) next season comes up at the Super Eight.
“It is in this light that we are calling on the state government and philanthropists in the state to pull all available resources to ensure the completion of this task by GUFC.
“We further urged the players and the club’s Management to give all it takes to fight for a spot at the NPFL, as they had done at the yet to be concluded NNL season,” the statement added.
