NYSC corps member bags traditional title in Gombe
Shongo Idrissa community in Gombe State has conferred the traditional title of ‘Tauraruwan Shongo Idrissa’ meaning the Star of Shongo Idrissa, on a female serving corps member Precious Omimi with state code GM/20B/0705.
Announcing the decision of the community, on Thursday, Principal GDSS Shongo Idrissa, Alh. Mahmud Mohammed, expressed gratitude to the corps member for standing out and making positive impact in the community.
He prayed for the sustenance of the NYSC Scheme and commended the Director General, Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim for keeping the scheme visible .
Mohammed said, “The Community, in honour of corps member Precious Omimi, has given her the traditional title of Tauraruwan Shongo Idrissa which means the Star of Shongo Idrissa.”
Our correspondent gathered that Ms Omimi provided tricycle for a crippled student of Government Day Secondary School Shongo Idrissa, and made a donation of automatic hand washing machine at the orientation camp and solar panel at NYSC zonal office.
Speaking, State Coordinator NYSC Gombe, Mrs Ada Imoni lauded the efforts of Precious Omimi and Eko Uko Onaji GM/20B/ 1029, at NYSC Zonal office,Gombe .

Imoni explained that Community Development Service has been described as one of the major contributing factors for enduring the relevance of the NYSC programme in it’s 48th year of existence.

She said, “I’m particularly moved by the donation of tricycle to a crippled student of Government Day Secondary School Shongo Idrissa ; Zainab Mohammed , donation of automatic hand washing machine for use at NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp Amada, donation of 1 KVA Solar System (For NYSC Zonal office) and educational materials for GDSS Shongo Idrissa and Shongo Idrissa Primary School.”
While encouraging other serving Corps members to tow their path, Mrs Imoni, said a good name is always Better than silver and gold. She added that, “Corps members must strive to mingle with members of their host communities and ensure that they touch lives positively.”
