Why our cold store is domiciled in Gov’t House clinic- Gombe official
Gombe State has explained the reason the cold store for it lastest delivery of Coronavirus vaccine is domiciled in the Government House clinic.
According to the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Habu Dahiru, it was kept there for security purposes, aside from the constant power supply.
Recall that the state recently took delivery of 87,360 doses of Moderna and 12,794 doses of Astrazeneca COVID-19 vaccines, totalling 100,154 doses ahead of the second phase of coronavirus vaccination in the state.
He said, “We have gotten a refrigerator specially for moderna vaccine and it is located in Government House clinic, where there is 24 hours power supply.
“We have received it from the Federal Government, through National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, a specialized refrigerator that will keep the vaccines and it is domiciled in the Government House.
“The state cold store has the facility but just for security, We decided to keep the refrigerator in the Government House. The state cold stores have back up generator.”
While commenting on the purpose of the refrigerator, the commissioner stressed that it would preserve the potency of the vaccine.
He explained, “This one has been refrigerated, it about logistics transporting from the manufacturer to where it is going to be used.
When it comes here by the time we open the vial for application to an individual that is the period that is needed. If you can maintain the cold chain from the store to the place you are going to give the vaccine.”
