Gombe United Gaffer says Ahlan Cup avenue to blend squad
Gombe United’s Technical Adviser Aliyu Zubairu, says the Ahlan Cup Pre-season tournament is an avenue for clubs to blend, integrate newly recruited players and prepare for the upcoming NPFL new season.
The former Wikki Tourists gaffer made this revelation through the club’s media officer, Halilu Teli ahead of their match against Heartland Fc of Owerri scheduled for Tuesday 2 /11/ 21 at the Sani Abacha stadium, Kano.
He said the Savannah Scorpions are not participating with the aim of winning the the tourney, but to serve as an avenue to test the strength and weakness of his squad and to ensure that both the old and new signings gelled together.
He said, “If we win the tourney, it’s okay, however our main target is to create a bond and chemistry in the team in order to make positive impact in the elite league.”
While commending Governor of Gombe state, Muhammadu Yahaya for his benevolence to the club and assured to reciprocate the gesture by fighting for continental slots.
According to him, ” You see his excellency Governor Inuwa Yahaya has done alot to us; he is still doing more, and the best way to express our appreciation is to grab one of the four continental tickets at the end of the season.”
The gaffer also explained that his target for this season would be to win the domestic league.
“Some may think that would not be possible because there are no big names in the squad, but it’s achievable with the calibre of players we have,” Zubairu added.
Gombe United are paired in group A in the Ahlan Cup alongside Heartland Fc, neighbours – El-kanemi Warriors and Kano selected.
