NYSC takes medical outreach to Gombe community
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has launched its phase II edition of the 2021 Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD), with no fewer than 250 persons accessing the service.
Declaring the exercise open, at Doho, Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe State, the Director-General of the NYSC, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, said the one-week medical outreach would feature sensitisation on disease prevention and care.
Ibrahim noted further that diagnosis, referrals and administration of drugs to beneficiaries in rural Communities are part of what the exercise entailed.
According to him, in an attempt to deepen the impact of it’s Healthcare services, management of the NYSC launched the HIRD in 2014.
Represented by Beulah Gokum Assistant Director Human Resource Management, Ibrahim noted that two million persons have been benefitted from the services of the NYSC Medical teams in the HIRD platform.
He said, “This is a platform for contributing towards the well-being of indigent persons at the grassroots by granting them easier access to free and quality healthcare healthcare.”
While soliciting for the support of corporate bodies and philanthropists, the Director General said their support would enhance the scheme’s efforts in actualising plans of setting up mobile clinics for wider outreach.
On his part, Chairman, Kwami Local Government Council, Ibrahim Buba who was represented by Mohammed Kwami commended the efforts of NYSC Management for the sustenance of the HIRD programme in ensuring that rural communities benefit enormously through corps medical personnel.
Also speaking, Umar Dirri Coordinator Primary Healthcare Kwami Local Government Area, lauded the NYSC scheme for the programme, while calling on Doho Community to take advantage of the outreach.
” We cannot thank NYSC enough for this exercise. You will all agree with me that health is wealth and we must not take lightly this beautiful innovation,” Dirri said.
While commending the corps members, Chairman, Kwami Development Association , Prof. Shuaibu Umar expressed his gratitude on behalf of the community, for the rare privilege to be part of the phase two HIRD.
He also commended Governor of Gombe State, for his policy on Healthcare delivery by renovating health facilities in the nooks and crannies of Gombe State, as well as his support to the NYSC on the Heath Initiative for Rural Dwellers Programme.
