Goje: Using gov’t machinery to advantage is Natural – Gombe Attorney General
Gombe State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Zubairu Umar says the use of state agent to advantage enhances the political standing of any government.
Umar made this disclosure on Wednesday, in an interview with journalists, while reacting to allegation by some Gombe Lawyers, Barr. Henry Nwoye representing Senator representing Gombe central Danjuma Goje and Barr. Luka Haruna representing Mohammed Yayari, a social media aide to the lawmaker.
Haruna had lamented how the Chief Magistrate Mohammed Kumo had decried pressure from ‘Powers that be’ in his ruling saying that he was coerced to deny the defendant bail.
Nwoye, also claimed that despite an exparte order by the Federal High Court the state insists on inviting Goje to Gombe state.
According to the Attorney General, for everything that government does it is for one interest or the other, adding that it may either to entice support or in appreciation of already given support.
Umar said, “It is natural. In Democracy when you are in control you can use the machinery of Government to enhance your political standing. Every project that has been sited anywhere there is politics behind it, there must be a reason.
“It is either because you want to compensate those who supported you or entice those who have not supported you and this purely a political administration anything government does it weighs how the consequences will impact the performance of government.
“Has anybody said anything that government did, he (chief magistrate Kumo) mentioned that somebody mounted pressure on him. He didn’t say the governor or the state government.”
Commenting on how Government pressure on the Chief Magistrate prolonged Mohammed Yayari’s bail, Umar added, “Has he not been released, so because he is a critique he can commit an offence and be allowed to go free. It is the responsibility of the state government to nip it in the bud. Should we say anybody can do and say thing there should be a limit no matter what right you have.
“Ofcourse they went to the Federal High Court to apply for an order exparte, it was refused and the court made some reconsideration orders, has anyone violated that order from the the state government. If there is an allegation against someone there should be an investigation and after that proper next step should be taken.”
