Gombe Legion appeals for support for  widows, families, as Gov’t donates N5 million for emblem appeal fund

Gombe State Chapter of Nigerian Legion has appealed to the State Government for support for widows of fallen heroes, who were killed defending the sovereignty of the country.

Speaking on Friday during the 2021/2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Emblem Appeal Fund at the Government House, State Chairman Sgt. Adamu Dogo (rtd). urged authorities to consider the plight of affected families in extending the required assistance.

According to him, “Immediate families and dependents, are yearning for assistance and care by all and sundry. Therefore, this occasion is a unique one in the sense that, it is time for sober reflection with the aim of helping them.

“Sir, you may wish to know that 70 percent of the women seated here before you are widows of our fallen heroes. Please assist them in some of your programmes.”

Dogo revealed that the office space of the chapter is dilapidated, in need of immediate attention.

He said, “I also seize this opportunity to let you know that I inherited a rented house as office. The office is in bad condition. It has broken doors and windows. No light, water and toilet facilities. I inherited two vehicles ; one scrap Nissan car and a 406 car which is in bad condition. It is nine years old.”

While appealing for generous donation, from both Government and public spirited individuals, Dogo stressed that the task of keeping Nigeria one, is a task that must be done.

“We have done it  and we are still doing it. It is now left for the good people of Gombe State to decide and donate generously. I wish to appeal to all to donate generously for the sake of the orphans, widows and dependents of the fallen heroes,” he added.

On his part, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya announced the donation of N5 million as support for the chapter.

Represented by Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau, who made a personal donation of N1.1 million, while urging them to continue to yield their know how in steming the tide of security challenges.

The Governor also lauded their collaboration with those in active service, stressing that it has been beneficial.
