Gombe man kidnaps self over N500,000 ransom
A 32-year-old Hallilu Aliyu has been arrested by Gombe State Police command for masterminding his own kidnap over 500,000 ransom.
Aliyu alongside, 42-year-old Ahmed Ladan were said to have been arrested based on complaint received by Police Operatives attached to State Intelligence Bureau Gombe.
According to a statement obtained by our correspondent through the command’s Public Relations Officer Mary Malum which borders on criminal conspiracy, intimidation, kidnapping and extortion.
The police PRO noted that Aliyu failed to return the tricycle nor the money after ending his transport business which was started for him by his sister-in, instead opted to raise funds through feigning adoption.
Malum said, “The first suspect Haliru Umar Aliyu ‘m’ of Tudun Wada quarters Gombe was given a tricycle to ride after his business has collapsed by his sister in-law. However, the said suspect Haliru Umar Aliyu ‘m’ later sold the tricycle for the sum of two hundred and fifty thousand naira (N250,000) without the knowledge of the owner.
“Upon request of the tricycle or her money, the suspect failed to bring any, because of the shame according to him, on the 30th December,2021, the suspect went to his friend’s house the second suspect one Ahmed Ladan ‘m’ alias “Sarkin Baka” of London mai Dorowa Gombe , where they criminally conspired among themselves and faked a kidnap of the said Haliru Umar Aliyu with the intension to extort his elder sister one Zainab Umar Aliyu ‘f’ aged 42yrs of the same address, the sum of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000) to enable him refund the money.”
She stressed that the commissioner of police Cp Ishola Babaita, in collaboration with men of the command would continue to be proactive in its readiness to combat, prevent, detect crimes and criminalities in all parts of the State, revealing that prayer mat, kettle small dish bowl were among items recovered in their possession.
“The suspects called and threatened the victim using her brother’s phone that unless the said sum of money is paid into her brother’s Bank account number to secure his release, else her brother will be killed. The suspects confessed to the crime, meanwhile, investigation is on going and the case will soon be charge to court. Exhibit recovered includes:
Two small dish bowl, One mat, One plastic kettle,” Malum added.
