Gombe varsity continues academic activities
Academic activities have continued at the Gombe State University, away from the sensitisation strike called by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), as observed on Monday by our correspondent.
The students who were in examination mood, were spotted with their books, while some others were seen studying ahead of their time table.
According to a student who simply identified himself as Musa Hussain, Government and ASUU should seek amicable solutions to the debacle.
He appealed to authorities both State and Federal to give education the required priority.
He said, “I want to appeal to Government to please honour the agreement they entered with ASUU. This because it is for the good of students. Our lecturers should give their resolutions human face, enough of yearly strike.”
Speaking in a telephone interview with The Periscope Nigeria, Dr. Suleiman Salihu Jauro, Branch Chairman of ASUU said branches were free to decide on any day of the week between Monday and Thursday to register their displeasure in solidarity with the union.
“Actually in Gombe State University, there is no free lecture as of today. It is a national directive to which every branch is at liberty to choose a particular day between now and Thursday,” Jauro said.
He continued adding that “In our own branch we are going to hold our congress tomorrow (Tuesday), it is at the meeting we are going to decide. So, that is why today’s activities are ongoing.”
