Child spacing promotes quality of life in mothers, children
The Gombe State Child spacing Coordinator, Mrs Sa’adatu Sambo says child spacing practice promotes quality of life of the entire family, community and the nation as a whole.
Sambo, who stated this in an interview with our correspondent, after a five-day capacity building workshop for media, CSOs, and religious leaders.
The workshop which centred on Smart Advocacy, resource mobilisation and proposal development provided participants opportunity to learn quick advocacy wins.
The State Focal person explained that family planning also reduces maternal and infant mortality rate.
She said, “Child spacing was a voluntary informed decision by an individual or couple regarding when to start having children and how much time to be given in between births.”
Sambo said more women now accessed child spacing services and commended the state government support for improved services.
Rev. Solomon Ayewonle, who spoke on the Christian perspective on child spacing, says the religion supports the well-being and health of women and children, as well as their adequate care.
According to Alhaji Saleh Danburam, who spoke on the Muslim perspective on child spacing, also called on husbands to support their wives to have access to child spacing services.
There are about 465 health facilities across Gombe State offering child spacing services in which is an entry point for clients to be counseled, provided options and allowed to choose the best for themselves.
