Gombe police command refute strike notice
Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command Ishola Babaita has debunked the notice that men of his command are going on strike following poor welfare.
Babaita made this disclosure on Friday, in a press statement obtained by our correspondent which was signed by Public Relations Officer Mahid Abubakar, stressing that the strike notice was meant to cause disaffection between the public and the force.
The Commissioner of Police, urged members of the public to disregard the fake news and go about their lawful businesses without fear of harassment or molestation of any kind, admonishing officers to maintain high standard of discipline which he said is the bedrock of the force.
Babaita said, “The attention of Gombe State Police Command has been drawn to an inciting news being spread across some sections of the media, particularly the Social Media Platforms that some members of the force will be embarking on a strike action with effect from March 26, 2022.
“The purported strike is fake, deliberate and calculated attempt by some unpatriotic individuals to cause disaffection between Police and the Public. I wish to implore the good people of Gombe State, to disregard this misinformation and to assure them that, Officers and men of the Command are compassionate servants of the citizens and there is no iota of truth on Police embarking on strike.
Babaita explained that the police under the current Inspector General of Police Usman Baba has taken the affairs of the its staff seriously.
“It is also pertinent to reaffirm that the Police under the leadership of Inspector –General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba Psc(+), fdc NPM are well motivated with the ongoing reforms especially in the following areas: The payment of approved new salaries/allowances of the Police is already in the pipeline effective from January 2022.
“Stoppage of Tax deductions from all Inspectors and Rank and Files with effect from January 2022.
The IGP has ordered the immediate and regular distribution of uniforms, kits, accoutrements and body armours for all Police personnel, especially Inspectors and other ranks with effect from 24th March, 2022.
“The reviewed NPF Housing Policy to provide affordable housing units for Police Officers especially the junior ranks. The approval of prompt payment of allowances to all men on special duty.
The allocation of Two Hundred and Fifty-Three (253) newly procured operational and emergency vehicles for Police Formations across Zonal and State Commands nationwide.
Similarly there was earlier distributions of 200 Buffalo trucks acquired and donated to the Nigeria Police by Nigeria Police Trust Fund.
“There is also development and construction of new Estates under the Nigeria Police Cooperative Housing scheme for allocation to members of the scheme; by reduction of equity contributions to 5% for Inspectors, 10% for Rank and File and 20% for ASPs and above respectively.
The IGP ordered the commencement of recruitment of recruit constables for the year 2021 in order to reinforce more personnel at the Divisional, Area Commands, State Commands as well as the Zonal Commands levels,” the statement added.
