Wife of Gombe Gov gives women group N500,000 support for convention
Gombe State First Lady, Asma’u Yahaya, has supported the National Council for Women Society (NCWS), Gombe state chapter, with N500,000 to enable the organisation make adequate arrangements ahead of its national convention scheduled for next week.
The governor’s wife made known her support on Friday, when she received in audience, the NCWS officials in her office, at the Government House, Gombe, with the assurance that her office is ready to work together with the association, in providing the necessary support to the women.
Yahaya said, “Going by your track record and reliable information through the state’s commissioner of women affairs, Naomi J.J.Awak on your activities, aside rallying round other women and children programmes organised from my office and development partners. I believe that working shoulder to shoulder with NCWS will continue to bring more good things for our women of Gombe State.”
Speaking earlier, Vice President I, Badshemat Umar who led the officials on the courtesy call, said the donated sum would go a long way, especially in taking care of the expenses during the NCWS Convention.
“I want to commend the women friendly government of Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, for keeping to the 35 percent affirmative action, by giving women the opportunity to lead and contribute their quota in various fields of endeavour, as directors, permanent secretaries , heads of agencies/ministries/organizations , councilors etc,” Umar said.
She noted that the support explains governor’s wife, as one with love for women at heart, assuring an unflinching support to the Governor Yahaya’s administration.
Umar added, “As part of the NCWS mandate that gives patronship to governor’s wives and Nigeria’s First Lady Dr. Aisha Buhari, we are requesting a later date at your convenience, to come with high powered delegation, to officially issue you a letter, confirming you as the Gombe state patron of the National Council for Women Society.”
Also speaking, Commissioner for women Affairs Naomi Awak, lauded the support by the wife of governor, while urging the women group to redouble efforts in mobilising women, “at the nooks and crannies of the state , in ensuring the return of governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya in 2023 by God’s grace,” Awak said.
