Emir of Gombe, Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III has called on politicians to eschew violence and play politics according to the rules of the game.

Abubakar made this call when the Vice President of Nigeria Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, visited his palace on Monday.

He advised politicians to ensure that the 2023 election is devoid of violence, ethnic jingoism, and religious bigotry, stressing that the poll is important to all Nigerians and international community.

The emir who doubles as Chairman of council emirs and chiefs reiterated that all hands should be on deck towards the successful conduct of the poll.

While congratulating Osinbajo for serving the president for the past seven years faithfully, dedicatedly and religiously wished best of luck in his political pursuit.

“As we are approaching 2023 election let me use this opportunity to call on politicians and their followers to eschew violence and to work towards peaceful conduct of the 2023 election and beyond.

“This because Nigeria is the only country we have and we must work together.”

Speaking earlier, Osinbajo said he was not in the palace to play politics but to receive blessings from a royal father.

He noted that in the last seven he has served in various presidential capacities, among which is the acting president, vice president and chairman of various committees with the aim of alleviating poverty, providing employment and infrastructural development to Nigerians.

He said, “I’m here on a completely different mission, we are not allowed to play politics. Otherwise, I would have made a very long speech your Royal Highness, I will not disturb with matters meant for politicians. Only to say that on April 11 2022, i formally declared my intention to run as president of the federal republic of Nigeria.”

Also speaking, the Governor of Gombe State Muhammadu Yahaya commended the august visitor for finding it imperative to interact with Nigerians in Gombe State.

While wishing him success in his quest to become president, he prayed for blessings and protection in his pursuit for the number seat.
