Chief Judge lauds retiring Gombe jurist over unblemished records
The Chief Judge, Federal High Court John Tsoho, has lauded retiring Judge of High Court Gombe, Musa Kurya, for attaining the statutory 65 years in the bench with unblemished records, adding that it was inspire of harsh economic situations.
Tshoho made this commendation on Thursday in Gombe, in his valedictory address held at the Federal High Court.
According to him, the valedictory ceremony was held to honour the jurist, following the sacrifices and contributions to the judiciary.
He said, “It is also an opportunity to rejoice on the graceful exit from active judicial service of any of our judges who retires, especially in good health, character and reputation unblemished.”
Tsoho continued adding, “It must be stated that keeping up with this tradition has not been easy, in view of the harsh economic conditions we are currently facing. However, it is important to give honour to whom honour is due. Therefore, this court will continue to celebrate its judges that have given a lot to it growth; having held this arduous and stressful post with distinction.”
While wishing the jurist farewell, Tsoho urged him to retire into a rewarding family life, stressing that Kurya, had spent his active years serving the public.
“I personally appreciate and congratulate your dependable wife, who firmly stood by you during your difficult times. I also commend your children, without whose support you could never have done this job successfully.
“I am confident they are proud of your achievements and yearn for you. We therefore hand you over to your family in good form, optimistic that since rulings, judgments are now out of the way, you will have abundant free time to spend with them,” Tsoho added.
The valedictorian, Kurya who was born on 9th May, 1957 in Ture Kaltungo Local Government of Gombe State, has spent 10 years as Judge of the Federal High Court, during which he spent Lagos and Jos judicial divisions.
He commenced his legal career at High Court of Bauchi in 1976 to 1979, before proceeding to Bauchi College of Arts and Sciences from 1979 to 1981. Kurya also attended Ahmadu Bello University in 1984 and was called to bar in 1985.
