Gombe Gov adopts corps members as first-class citizens
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has assured batch B stream I corps members serving in the state of the support of his administration in making life on camp, during and after service in the state comfortable for them.

Yahaya made this disclosure on Friday, when he led a top government delegation to the Amada temporary orientation camp on inspection of facilities.

Some of the areas visited by the delegation include; toilets, hostels, mammy market and kitchen within the Amada camp.

The Governor was represented by Secretary to Gombe State Government (SSG), Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, who expressed Yahaya’s resolve in making the life of corps members rewarding.

According to him, “Each and everyone of you is now considered citizen of Gombe State. Anywhere you are see yourself as our own corps member, you are not a second class citizen.
“If find yourself in my Kaltungo tell them you are from Kaltungo, if you get to Balanga tell them you are a citizen of Balanga, if you go to Dukku not to talk of Gombe. That is the assurance we are giving you as citizens of Nigeria, wherever you find yourself put in your best.”

While promising that the batch B stream I corps members would benefit from the completion of its permanent site as government works assiduously to ensure the timely delivery.
“I want to assure you that after this set, the state government is committed to now moving you to the permanent site. The permanent site has attained about 70 percent completion. We hope that by the time you people will finish your Primary Assignment, your Passing out will be in the permanent site,” Yahaya said.

The Governor also commended NYSC camp officials for ensuring the well being of corps members, stressing that the Government was not oblivious of their sacrifices.

On her part, The State Coordinator Ada Imoni while lauding the various interventions of the State Government, added that officials had effected the recommendations by the chairman of NYSC governing board and the commissioner for Youth and Sports Development Abubakar Musa.
Imoni revealed that so far the state has registered 1,239 batch B stream I corps members, lamenting the challenges of windstorm on camp facilities due to its temporary nature.
She said, “Other devastating challenges include; lack of water, we rely solely on water vendors which cost us N15,000 per tank and we need to pay six of them every day to run the camp.”
In an interview with journalists, Corps member Victor Ayuba, who doubles as head of parade said with the assurances of the governor he would not redeploy his service to another state, adding that his impression about the state has changed.
“I felt like a biological son of the governor already,” Ayuba added.
