Malnutrition: Gombe State takes delivery of 3,210 Cartoons of RUTF

Periscope Nigeria reports that RUTF is used for the treatment of Severe Acute Malnutrition and moderate malnutrition  in under five children.

However, investigation by our correspondent shows that RUTF is a curative option, whereas preventive measures would help both mother and baby.

Presenting the procurement to the Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency through the budget planning and development partner coordination office on Monday, the representative of the office and nutrition focal person, Mohammad Saleh said the State Government in its desire to tackle malnutrition released 50 million naira as counterpart fund to UNICEF in order to procure the commodity.

He said, “2,063 cartons of the product were purchased while some quantity are equally located by UNICEF through the matching grant.”

On his part, while receiving the items the Executive Secretary of Gombe state Primary Health Care Development Agency Dr. Abduraham Shuaibu, lauded the efforts of the Muhammadu Yahaya’s led administration, adding that it would go a long way to reduce malnutrition induced infant deaths.

Shuaibu, represented by the Director Community and Family Health Care Dr. Maryam Abubakar, said the Governor has placed priority on healthcare delivery and expressed optimism that the product would serve the purpose meant for.

He assured of prompt delivery of the items to the affected local governments.
