USAID Tests Gombe Local Govt Self Assessment Tool
The USAID Nigeria, State Accountability, Transparency, Effectiveness State-to-State Activity Gombe, has commenced the test run of revised Local Government Self Assessment Tool with Gombe Local Government Area.
In an address before the test run, the Local Government Area LGA Manager State to State Activity Hajiya Zariyatu Abubakar Hashidu said the assessment was to measure the strengths and weaknesses of the local government area for possible intervention such as capacity building and technical support.
She said a similar assessment was done in the state government and results of the training and technical support had shown improvements in fiscal performance and internally generated revenue of Gombe.

Hashidu said state-to-state activity is bringing such support to the local government areas for accountability and transparency in governance.
She said the activity supported by USAID is being implemented in Akwa Ibom, Sokoto, Bauchi, Adamawa, Ebonyi and Gombe States to promote good governance.
Hashidu said, “The activity is about transparency in governance with focus on primary health care delivery, basic education , Water Sanitation and Hygiene Public Finance Management, citizens engagement, conflict mitigation.”
The LGA Manager explained that the assessment tool is a baseline study to assess what is currently on ground, calling on the staff to be sincere in filling the tool.
“We need a baseline to know what is on ground to know the programme to formulate. We solicit your cooperation,” Hashidu added.
Responding the Chairman of Gombe Local Government Area, Alhaji Usman Haruna assured the council’s support to achieve the needed success.
Periscope Nigeria reports that seven out of 11 Local Government Areas are to benefit from the intervention.
The local government areas are Billiri, Nafada, Yamaltu Deba, Gombe
Kwami, Akko and Balanga.
The State-to-State Activity is improving government ability to plan budget raise revenue, increase responsiveness to citizens needs and priority.
