2022 IYD: Gombe Youths join counterpart worldwide to celebrate

The Youths in Gombe State have joined their counterparts worldwide to celebrate International Day in pomp and pageantry as parts of the commitment of State Government to promote sports development in the state.
According to the statement by the media aide to the Deputy Governor, Jack Tasha, the activities for the celebration of the Youths Day were organised at Pantami Township Stadium where the youths came out in their numbers to be part of the event on Friday.

Speaking at the event, the Gombe State Deputy Governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau, said the youths occupy an important place in every facets of the society and the day provides opportunity for stakeholders to identify areas of concern for betterment of their lives globally, by drawing attention to vital issues for the purpose of harnessing their potentials towards greater responsibilities as future leaders.

The Deputy Governor explained that, the administration of Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has recognised the zeal, energy and willingness of the youth in Gombe, and came up with youth empowerment and engagement programs for their own benefits and towards sustainable development, adding that the match-up theme for the year 2022 “Intergenerational Solidarity; Creating a World for all Ages” is in tandem with the Gombe State 10-Year Development Plan( DEVACOM).
He said, ” This also vividly explains why I placed a premium on the youth as soon as I came on board three years ago. I have emphasized youth development and engagement in areas such as agriculture, education, health , commerce and infrastructure, including the 100- 11( one hundred and eleven roads)in eleven Local Governments across the state. Others including entrepreneurship and skills training, tree planting campaigns termed ” Gombe Goes Green” leadership and citizenship trainings, Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park in Dadinkowa, rehabilitation of earth dams and more canal for irrigation purposes aimed at increased job creation for our determined and hardworking youths. Worthy of mention here also is the training of 500 of our youths as Gombe State Security Traffic and Environmental Corps ( GOSTEC).
“The State government in collaboration with Industrial Training Fund (ITF) is currently training 300 youths in various trades such as Solar Installation, Hairdressing and Alluminium Fabrication , all aimed at reducing poverty, crime rate and creating employment opportunities”
“Let me use this opportunity to draw your attention regarding the influx of drugs and the negative vices it poses to the well-being of the society. It pains me greatly to see how a large number of our youth whom we see as partners in leadership, undergoing untold hardship. I see the youth not as leaders of tomorrow. I see them as fellows on a mission to build a better and more reliable Gombe State.
” As the slogan says ” Build the youth, build the nation. Destroy the youth , destroy the nation” Our mission is to build the youth so that they may further build Gombe State and the nation at large.”
In his address of welcome, the Commissioner of Youth Development, Alh. Abubakar Aminu Musa said the International Youth Day Celebration is a day set aside by the United Nations General Assembly to commemorate the youths by recognizing their contributions to nation building
He said the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya in the state has giving the youth prominent attention by providing them with numerous opportunities for leadership training and entrepreneurship development.
The Commissioner appealed to the youths to shun drugs, eschew negative vices and support the well meaning policies and programmes of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for the overall development of the state.
The event featured presentation of gifts to governor Muhummadu Inuwa Yahaya, some commissioners and other personalities as well as associations who have in one way or the other contributed towards the development of sports in the state and other skilful areas, match pass by youth groups in the state as well as launching of tree planting Campaign and novelty match between Liverpool verses Gombe professionals.
