We don’t have such power to deploy SPU – Gombe police Commissioner
Gombe State Commissioner of Police Ishola Babaita, has said that his command is not in charge of granting Special Protection unit approval, adding that such requests are usually directed to the police headquarters.

He made this disclosure on Sunday in a telephone interview with Periscope Nigeria, in Gombe.
Babaita revealed that for about 30 political parties that conducted primaries his men provided them cover for the event which he said was on a temporary basis.
According to him, “We have been providing security to political parties and not to candidates especially in the course of their primaries. I have not received requests for SPU, and if they come with such requests I will refer them to the headquarter. We don’t have power to deploy Special Protection to anyone only the Inspector General of Police.”
When asked about the number approved by the IGP for candidates in the state, the Commissioner said he was not aware.
