Police warn Gombe politicians against using youths for thuggery
Gombe State Police Command, on Tuesday handed politicians stern warning about the use of youths for thuggery, as campaign activities are about to commence.
Our correspondent reports that this is following increasing rate of youth restiveness in the state, urging political parties not to arm them as thugs especially as they work towards winning elections.
According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mahid Abubakar, the warning has become necessary due to the calendar of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which would lift ban on electioneering process on 28th of September.

Abubakar said, “As the commencement of campaigns by Political Parties in public / Notice of Election time table and schedule of activities published by Independent National Electoral commission (INEC),in accordance with sec.28(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, will kick start with effect from 28th September 2022.
The command want to seize this opportunity and enjoin all political parties to eschew violence and not to engage the vulnerable youths in any form of political thuggery. I also urge parents to watch over their children and wards before during and after the Electoral process.”
While appealing for improved synergy with residents of the state, Abubakar added, “The Commissioner of Police Ishola Babatunde Babaita, wishes to appeal to the good people of the State to continue to partner with us by taking keen interest on issues of their personal security and neighbourhood safety by providing useful information on the activities of any suspicious individuals or groups.”
