Gombe Govt restates commitment to improving medical practice in the state
The State Government has reiterated commitment towards improving the health work force to give the total population the desired health need.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya reiterated this at the opening ceremony of 2022 physicians’ week and scientific conference with the theme, “Nigerian Healthcare delivery system and the 2023 democratic transmission: A Time to change the narrative”, held at the Multipurpose hall , college of medical sciences, Gombe State University.
Yahaya represented by the commissioner for health Dr. Habu Dahiru, said his administration has made huge reforms to transform Heath care services by improving service delivery, supply chain and the combat of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

He commended the doctors for the huge sacrifice in meeting the health needs of the people, adding that government is assiduously working towards improving the health sector.

“lets us stop living the country and salvage the health sector.Let us all be our brothers keepers.
“Doctors join politics to make postive change in the health sector,” the governor said.
Also speaking, chairman of the occasion Professor Aliyu Usman El-nafaty, who is the Vice Chancellor Gombe State University represented by Dr. Usman Bala, said medical practice needed government and community support to efficiently and effectively work.
He said the sector is faced with lot of challenges top among is the brain drain hence the need for all hands to be on deck to address medical migration.
The Vice Chancellor said, “Some hospitals have shut out some departments because of manpower”If you live the country with your wife and children, what about your parents, other family members and community? who will take care of their health needs?”
To the young doctors, he urged them to see the profession as service and sacrifice to humanity.
The Guest speakers, Dr Paul Odunze, Dr Zainab Yunusa kaltungo and Dr Danimoh Mustapha called on authorities concerned to bring back the lost glory of the profession to address the emerging brain drain in the sector.
They advised for political will, increase production of health workers of all cadres and make funds available to the health sector.
On her part, Member representing Dukku/ Nafada in the house of representatives Hajiya Aishatu Jibril Dukku, who was awarded for outstanding support to health service delivery advised the doctors to work in synergy with all cadre of workers in the health sector to achieve the desired goal.
The Chairman of Nigeria Medical Association Dr Khalipha Abdulsalam represented by his deputy Dr Ahmad Girbo and chairman organising committee Dr Kashim Pindiga, urged members to abide by the ethics of the profession.
They said the physician week is marked to celebrate doctors and highlight on challenges bedevilling the profession.
They added that as part activities marking the day, the association has offered free medical services to inmates at gombe correctional centre.
“We are going to also have session with the young doctors to mentor them for good practice.”
In his good message the pioneer Chief Medical Director of the then Federal Medical Centre, Gombe Dr Ali Gombe said people are living the health sector in nigeria and the few left are overwhelmed hence the need for quick intervention to address the trend
