N-G Cares: World Bank names Zamfara Gov as best governor
The World Bank has commended Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state for putting in place all necessary facilities and logistics in the implementation of the “World Bank N-G CARES,” programme in the state.
This was disclosed yesterday by the National Coordinator of the World Bank N-G CARES programme, Dr Abdulkareem Obaje when the organisation’s assessment team visited Governor Bello Matawalle at the Government House, Gusau to assess activities of the N-G CARES programme in the state.
According to the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary Jamilu Magaji, The team leader said, the Shattiman Sokoto is the first Governor in Nigeria to provide the needed world Bank structure for the full implementation of the N-G CARES programme which resulted in the successes and achievements recorded in the state.
He said although they were in the state to assess the implementation of the programme, the team found it necessary to appreciate the Governor’s commitments to humanitarian services and human development in providing all the necessary logistics and support towards the success of the programme in the state.
Responding, Governor Bello Matawalle said, with the coming of the programme, his administration invested two billion, six hundred million Naira (2.6bn) as its contribution to the humanitarian aid programme of COVID-19 to ameliorate the problem in the state.
According to the Governor, with the commencement of the disbursement of the funds, he made sure that no kobo was diverted for any purpose other than that of the N-G CARES as designed by the world Bank project.
The Governor told the visitors that when money was released to the state, he directed the managers and supervisors of the N-G CARES project to ensure judicious utilisation of the funds in accordance with the word Bank specifications.
He informed the delegation that the action recovery of COVID-19 was initiated by state Governors from the Nigeria Governors’ Forum to the world Bank in order to provide humanitarian services to citizens to ameliorate the Covid-19 pandemic faced by Nigerians.
