Bauchi Emerges NILDS Zonal Quiz Winner
Bauchi State has emerged winner of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies Zonal Quiz competition for secondary schools on Legislative and Democracy in the North-East region.
The competition which had participating schools from each of the states in the region took place at Gombe state House of Assembly conference hall on Wednesday.
Bauchi state came first with 20 points in the final round, followed by Adamawa with 10 points and Yobe came third with no points in the final round of the competition.
Gombe state was knocked out after failing to scale through the tie-breaker session with Borno and Yobe states.
With its emergence, Bauchi state, representing North-East zone would slug it out with the other geo-political regions and the representing school of the FCT at the grand finale to be held at the National Assembly complex Abuja on November 24, 2022.
While declaring the event open, the Speaker of the House who was the chairman of the occasion Abubakar Muhammed Luggerewo, commended the initiative behind the competition which is to impact on the young ones on legislative processes and prepare them for the future.
Speaking earlier, the Director General of National Institute for Legislative and Democracy Studies NILDS prof. Abubakar Suleiman, who was represented, said the competition which started in 2016 with schools in Abuja was expanded to all states of the federation with the aim of providing education on Legislature and broaden the knowledge of students and Youths on the history, practice and process of the Legislature.
Suleiman revealed that the competition would encourage deeper understanding of civic and democratic governance, adding that the competition was geared towards encouraging students to imbibe reading culture, harnessing their critical thinking on National consciousness and awareness.
In her remarks, the state commissioner of Education Dr. Aisha Maigari who congratulated the winner, urged them to make the region proud at the grand finale of the competition coming up on 24 November 2022.
