Gombe Chief Magistrate adjourns case of alleged protest against NAPTIP to December 7
Chief Magistrate of Bogo Court VIII, His Worship, Japheth Maida, on Wednesday adjourned the case involving a Gombe State based activist Musa Ali-Maishanu, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and the police.
Recall that Ali-Maishanu, the regional Coordinator of a Non-Governmental Organisation ‘Global Pan-Africanism Network Nigeria (GPAN), who is on bail was detained and prosecuted by the police for threatening to organise a protest against NAPTIP.
Our Correspondent reports that Ali-Maishanu, allegedly threatened NAPTIP with protest for refusing to treat with justice, a case of a 27-year-old woman Hauwa’u Musa popularly known as ‘Ladidi’ in the state who was taken from the state since she was underaged to Adamawa, married off when she became an adult without the consent of her mother.
Speaking during the Court proceedings, Prosecution Counsel Barr. Muhammad Kumo, asked his worship for more time for the police to complete investigation, stressing that authorities were yet to conclude its processes.
“Investigation is still going on,” he said.
On his part, Defendant’s counsel Barr. Ibrahim Nuhu, who was represented by Barr. Muhammad Faruq, urged for timeframe that would give both parties opportunity to prove the case.
He said, “It should be a long date to enable the police conclude the investigation.”
His Worship, Maida, having given both counsels time to agree on a suitable time, to enable the police conclude the case under investigation, ratified 7th of December, 2022 as next hearing date.
