Gombe Media Practitioners get Cooperative Society

Gombe State Government has formed the State Media Practitioners Cooperative Society aimed at ensuring and enhancing the welfare of Journalists and Non- Journalists working in media houses based in the state.
This initiative was conceived by the Special Adviser on Information Management and Strategy, Alhaji Ahmed Shuaibu Gara-Gombe, which was anchored by State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, based on his philosophy of improving the welfare and practice of media personnel in the state.
The Special Adviser, Information Management and Strategy explained at the meeting with Journalists in the state that the Media Practitioners Cooperative Society would be registered under the Gombe State Cooperative Society Law of the State.
Periscope Nigeria reports that the objectives include; to promote the wellbeing of Media Practitioners in the state and members of their families, to support in any way possible and the needs of media practitioners both private and public in Gombe State.
Other objectives are to support the medical Care, education and career development of the children of media practitioners in the state, to provide short term, soft loans and Micro credit facility to media practitioners and their families in the state and to engage in any activity that is legally permissible to support the realization of any or all of the above stated objectives.
In their first meeting which was attended by the leadership of five unions with over 40 members in attendance, the following members were appointed as the Interim Executive Management Committee to run the society for six months.
It was gathered also that the tenure of the Interim Executive Management Committee ends whenever the election to new Executive members are elected.
They newly appointed members are; Mallam Sa’idu Bappa Malala who is chairman of the NUJ as the Chairman of the Cooperative society,
Chief Ben Ngwakwe of Vanguard newspaper as the 1st Vice Chairman, Hajara Leman of NAN as the 2nd Vice Chairman, Talatu Lamon the Chairperson of NWOJ as the Treasurer,
Mansur Aramide of Guardian newspaper as the Public Relations officer PRO,
William Attah of Independent Newspaper as the Secretary,
Abdulmumini Abubakar the Chairman of RATAWU as the Chief Whip and
Haruna Adamu Maitabarma of Gombe Media Cooperation as the Welfare Officer respectively.
Recall that the Gombe State Media Practitioners Cooperative Society (GMSMPCS), is a new birth association solely to take care of the immediate and remote needs of media practitioners in the state.
