How Gombe is tackling security challenges – Gombe Deputy Gov tells course 45 participants
The Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Manassah Daniel Jatau, has attributed successes of maintaining Security stability to engagement of all sectors of the economy.
The Deputy Governor made the disclosure while addressing Participants of Course 45 of 2022, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna State during a courtesy call in his office, while on a Study Tour to Gombe State.
Jatau noted that in view of the manifold challenges bedeviling the nation, the task of ensuring safety and security shouldn’t be left on the shoulders of security personnel alone.
He said a wholistic approach to unveiling the circumstances informing the engagement in crimes must be adopted, and all hands must be on deck.
Jatau said, ” On realising that tackling security problems cannot be left to security personnel alone, we have engaged Traditional Rulers, Community and Religious Leaders, Youths, and Members of the Vigilante group, that has contributed in making us successful in the fight against insecurity,which made Gombe State is enjoying relative peace now.
“We welcome you to Gombe State, and believe your visit and findings will reveal a lot. You have pointed out why Gombe has become a study area and why the selection of the topic “Youths’ Unemployment and National Security”. There should be a paradigm shift on our research method, we should look beyond unemployment when profering solutions to reasons for Youths engagement in crime. Family background, religion play vital roles when we consider that not all unemployed engage in crime.”
The Deputy Governor informed the delegation of their administration’s commitment to the safety and security of the residents in the state through creation of Ministry of Internal Security and Ethical Orientation, and appointment of Special Advisers on Security, Drugs and Narcotics, all with a view to solving security problems amongst the youth.

Earlier in his remarks, the Leader of the delegation, Brigadier General Ishaya Buba Maina, who is the Director, Department of Warfare, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna State said they were in Gombe State on an Environmental Study Tour.
He said, the choice if Gombe was born out of the vast culture, and it’s massive infrastructural development and economic transformation.
He said, “My Team is one of eight Teams currently on tour of selected states of the federation , as part of this year’s Armed Forces Command and Staff College’s Nigeria Environmental Study Tour for students of Senior Course 45. The states currently being visited across the country are Delta, Edo, Jigawa, Katsina, Kogi, Plateau, as well as our hospitable and precious Gombe State.
” Your Excellency permit me to acquaint you with a little background of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, and state the purpose of our visit and introduce members of the Team. The Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, is a Tri-Service Institution established to train operational-level Military Officers of the highest professional standards to assume command and staff responsibilities. The objective is to develop the professional knowledge and understanding of selected officers of the Armed Forces in order to prepare them for both staff and command appointments.”
Maina, explained that the College trains officers from within and outside the country and that as part of their curriculum, students made a study tour to African Environment, which begins with Nigeria and there after present their findings in the form of a reserch paper to the college.
He informed the Deputy Governor that, this year’s theme is ” Youth Unemployment and National Security”, adding that the tour would afford the students the opportunity to have first hand information relative to Gombe State in their research effort, and would also provide them with knowledge of the political, socioeconomic, health, security policies, programmes and strategies that are operational in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, Hon. Commissioners, and Special Advisers as well as the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency were present during the courtesy call.
