Irate Enugu youths stone Gov Ugwuanyi
Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, on Thursday was alleged to have been stoned by some irate youths who were protesting.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that some of them said they were against bad governance induced by Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration.
Ugwuanyi, who is the Enugu North Senatorial Candidate of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had led a campaign team to Lejja, in Nsukka Local Government Area, but some youths from the area would not give him free passage, as they unleashed their anger on his convoy.
According to reports, the governor’s convoy was seriously attacked and stones thrown at it by some youths of Lejja, who blocked his team from attending the party’s town hall meeting.
The Lejja youths were said to have complained that their community had not benefited from the Ugwuanyi administration, where there are many bad roads, yet the Governor was coming to solicit for their votes.
Before then, on his way to Lejja from Nsukka, as Governor Ugwuanyi drove past the popular Ogige Market, he encountered hostility from Okada riders who refused to give way to his outriders. The citizens also mouthed obscenities against him and made hostile gestures as he waded through the traffic gridlock
As a result of these hostile receptions, Governor Ugwuanyi and his entourage were forced to hurriedly leave Lejja and branched off to Ehalumoma for another town hall meeting, where he also reportedly left in anger without even waiting for the opening prayer.
Every effort by the PDP Candidate for Nsukka/Igboeze South Federal Constituency, Hon. Vitalis Abba, who profusely apologised for the Lejja embarrassment, to persuade the Governor to stay till the end of the meeting, proved abortive.
