NYSC, GSU Sign MoU on Harnessing Gains of North-East Skill Acquisition Centre
The National Youth service Corps (NYSC), and Gombe State University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the training of students and youths in the state.

Our Correspondent reports that the students would be trained at its skills and entrepreneurship centre, as beneficiaries are expected to leverage on the collaboration of the two organisations.

The signing of the MoU took place at the NYSC North-East Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Centre donated by Access Bank as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.

Delivering his speech, the Director-General of NYSC Brig.Gen. Mohammed Fadah, represented by the Director of Legal Services Barr. Ahmed Ibrahim Tijjani, said the signing of the MoU is a demonstration of their commitment to the empowerment of Youths for self employment and wealth creation.
Fadah said, “Apart from Corps members for whom the Center was originally conceived, the partnership will enable us accommodate the training of Students of the State University and other Youths of the host Community, in line with our commitment to deepening the impact of the Scheme on the Society.”
He explained that the partnership would ensure optimal use of the facility which is fully equipped with various skills machines and tools.
Also speaking, Director of Skills acquisition and Entrepreneurship development SAED Mr. Omotade Ayodele Folorunsho, said the MOU is a landmark event that has the potential of changing the narrative of youth unemployment especially in the Northeast region and a new vista for the organisations to contribute to the provision of quality empowerment for the Youths.
“The edifice was handed over to the Scheme in 2018, and it will breed a new set of entrepreneurs that is poised to change the narrative of the youth in the production sector of our economy,” Folorunsho said.
On his part, Vice Chancellor of Gombe State University Aliyu Usman El-Nafaty, said the collaboration with the scheme would see to the training of their students with various skills irrespective of their field of study, stressing that it would be beneficial not only to the university community but the society.
El-Nafaty said, “the training programme which will commence soon will be well organised and extended to interested youths outside the university, adding that sensitisation will be carried out to get everyone informed of the facility and programmes.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the management team of Gombe State University were taken round the facility which has centres for tailoring and knitting, food processing, ICT and phone repair, automobile general services, wielding and fabrication, carpentry and barbing and hair dressing centres.
The event was witnessed by royal fathers, NYSC National and state management team, Gombe state university management staff, Corps members among others.
