QATAR 2022 WORLD CUP: Senegal Beat Ecuador 2 – 1 Become First African Team To Cross to last 16
By Samson Adeyemo
The Teranga Lions of Senegal have qualified for the knockout stage of the 2022 World Cup after beating Ecuador on Tuesday in a Group A match, in Khalifa International Stadium becoming the first African side to reach that great feat.

Ismaila Sarr recorded the first goal of the match for Senegal as he scores through a late penalty in the first half, and in the 67th minute Moises Caicedo levelled in for Ecuado as he scores the equaliser before Koulibaly scored up the winner in the 70th minute to send Senegal to the knockout phase of the World Cup and eliminate Ecuador from the tournament.
Senegal deserve to qualify from their World Cup group for the first time in 20 years, largely in part to a first-half performance where they blew away Ecuador, who came into the match knowing they only needed a point to progress to the next phase.
As it stands, Ecuador are out of the World Cup in the group stages for the third tournament out of the four they have reached in World Cup history.
Senegal will play the winners of Group B in the last 16 on Sunday, kick-off 7pm.
