What to know about Gombe’s new Commissioner of Police, CP Etim Oqua Effiom

The newly deployed Commissioner of Police in Gombe State Police Command,CP Etim Oqua Effiom
has assumed duty as the 21st Commissioner of Police in the history of Gombe State Command on Friday, 2022.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that this is after taking over from CP Ishola Babatunde Babaita, who was redeployed to Central Planning and Training Unit (CPTU), Police Staff College Jos.
The new CP. Etim Oquo Effiom, was born on 18th October, 1963 in Maiduguri, Borno State but hailed from Calabar Municipal Council of Cross River State.
He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Academy, Kaduna Annex on 3rd March, 1990 as a member Cadet ASP course 16 and was commissioned into the Nigeria Police Force as an Assistant Superintendent of Police and deployed to Oyo State Police Command in 1991.
The CP who is a versatile senior police personnel has attended so many professional courses both home and outside the country that has helped him greatly in Police work and activities in the various commands he has served in the country.
Among those courses are Junior and Senior Command Courses at Police Staff College Jos, United Nations Staff Officers Course at Addis Ababa Ethiopia (2005), Stability Policing Course sponsored by the Arab League at Mubarak Police Academy Cairo, Egypt (2008), the High Level Management Course at Centre of Excellence COESPU, Vicenza Italy (2008).
CP Effiom served in the Policy Leadership and Strategic Course at National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru-Jos (2012), and Civil Military Course at National Defense College (NDC) (2016), Abuja among others.
The CP has served in various capacities across the commands which included Mandatory one year attachment at Ibadan in Oyo State, Admin Officer Iwo Road Ibadan Police Station, DTO Yemetu Division Ibadan.
This Officer was also O/C Agodi Police Station Ibadan, O/C NYSC Orientation Camp Ibadan and also served as P.A to three Command Commissioners of Police in Oyo Command, Command Provost, IGP Sec. as Staff officer / POWA liaison officer FHQ Abuja, Team Leader General Investigation Department FHQ Abuja, 2i/C Special Fraud Unit FCID Abuja and AC Operations Ekiti State Command from (2013-2015).
He was the first ACP Special Protection Unit (SPU) FHQ Abuja (2015-2016), ACP Admin Research and Planning FHQ Abuja, DCP Force Armament Abuja (2018), DCP Admin Lagos State Police Command (2019- Jan,2021), DCP Admin Nasarawa State Command (2021), DCP Admin Force Operations Department Abuja and CP FCID Annex Northeast, Gombe before being deployed as CP Gombe State respectively.
The new Commissioner of Police however solicited the cooperation of members of the public in checkmating crime and criminality in the State and assures them of visible community and intelligence led policing as he affirms his commitments to improving on what his predecessor has put in place to secure the State.
The new CP Etim Oqua Effiom is a member of International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), and he is married and blessed with children.
