DSS decries increasing rate of political thuggery, kidnapping, others in North-East

Gombe State Director State Service Abah Adams, has decried the increasing rate of political thuggery, pastoralists/farmers clashes, kidnapping in the North-East region.
Adams made this disclosure on Thursday in his welcome address delivered at a two-day Conference of State Directors of Security of the North-East states.
Our Correspondent reports that participants include Directors of Taraba, Adamawa, Yobe, Borno, Bauchi States, among heads of other security agencies in state who received plaques from for their contributions to security.
According to the State Director, aside from insurgency, which the region was known for the North-East is witnessing other forms of security challenges.
Adams said, “This conference of the state Directors of Security in the North-East is expected to brain storm, analyse and come out with workable solutions to the security challenges of the sub region.
“We are aware that the threats of insurgency, kidnapping for ransom, banditry, political thuggery, pastoralists/farmers clashes, socio-economic threats of various dimensions, youth restiveness etc.”
Also, Gombe Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau, lamented the influence of money in quelling insecurity in the country, adding that it has slowed the operation of the service.
“Money has become the goal of all social actions. This means that you need to buy information instead of getting it from patriotic members of the public. I’m sure this explains the collapse of whistle blower’s approach by the Federal Government of Nigeria in its fight against corruption,” Jatau said.
Also speaking, Hussaini Abdullahi State Director of Bauchi State and the chairman of the forum in his keynote address appealed for collaborative efforts in curbing insecurity.
“No agency can do it alone, we need to collaborate, no agency can it alone. Don’t fail to ask for assistance, if we work as a team we achieve more results with minimal stress,”Abdullahi said.
On his part, Emir of Gombe Alh. Shehu Abubakar III, commended the support of security agencies. The Emir who was represented by Sani Jauro, assured of directors of continued support.
Abubakar said, “We all know that there is peace in Gombe, we know during the hay days of insurgency there was synergy. The peace we are enjoying in Gombe is as a result of your hard work, sacrifice, patriotism. Some were killed in the process of providing us security.”
