ASUU GSU decries N1b EAA debt since 2015, others
200 million naira subvention from State Government regular
A source at Gombe State University (GSU), Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), who pleaded not to be mentioned disclosed that although the N200m subvention has not reduced but the state government is owing staff two months salaries.
The impeccable source revealed this during an investigation conducted by PERISCOPE NIGERIA, noting that since 2015 government had not paid members Earned Academic Allowance EAA amounting to about N1b.
He said, “We are not aware about cut in the university’s subvention . We still are being owed two months salaries ( August & September).The University’s monthly subvention is 200m.We are being owed Earned Academic allowance to the tune of about 1bn covering 2015 – date.”
“Promotions from 2021 have not been implemented, 14 months arrears of 2020 promotions are still outstanding,” the source added.
However, Commissioner for Information and Culture Meshack Lauco, said government has shown commitment in clearing the arrears of End Academic Allowances (EAA), adding that government entered agreement with ASUU.
“Since 2021 and we have been honouring our part of the agreement. We met a debt of over 1.3 billion left by the previous government, we discussed with ASUU and we reached agreement as to how we will gradually pay it off.
We already honoured that of 2021.”
