Gombe State Fiscal Responsibility Commission has commenced sensitisation into ensuring that residents changed their old notes with regards to the Central Bank of Nigeria directives.

PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria has fixed 31st January 2023 as deadline for the change of old N200, N500 and N1000 notes.
According to a public notice signed by the helmsman Abubakar Inuwa Tata, the remaining 17 days should be used to deposit the old notes to avoid unnecessary rush.
The statement partly read, “We wish to draw the attention of all citizens of Gombe State particularly those living in rural areas to as a matter of urgency begin to drop all outstanding old notes of N1000, N500 and N200 denominations into their accounts or convert them into assets or inventories.
“With 17 days to the phasing out of the old notes, the downside risks of economic and financial loss is glaring and enormous.”
Tata also advised non-state actors to take the CBN’s directives seriously, stressing that it was unfathomable to allow money become tissue paper.
“We urge non-state actors, local authorities and all relevant stakeholders including market association to remind their members to do the needful.
No sane person will allow his or her hard-earned money be turned to tissue paper on the premises that the apex bank can change its decision,” the public notice added.
