Gov Yahaya launches Armed Forces Remembrance Appeal Emblem with N5m

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, on Friday launched armed forces remembrance appeal emblem with N5m to support both survivors and dependants of those that ensured the sovereignty of the country remained intact.

The yearly remembrance commemorates the heroic contributions of officers and men who fought in first and second world war, civil war and other peace keeping operations.
Our Correspondent reports that aside the N5million donated by the State Government, Head of Service pledged N500,000, while all special advisers donated N500, 000 and Local Government secretaries N150,000.
“My dear veterans and family members of the fallen Heroes, Gombe State hereby launches this year’s Appeal Fund with the sum of N5m, as I call on individuals and organisations to donate towards this noble and desired events,”the governor said.
Yahaya, who was represented by Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau, urged residents to support the legions, adding that such support should not be limited to the annual ritual.

He said, “Make life easy for the fallen heroes and members of the Nigerian Legion. Knowing too well that these fallen heroes met their fate in course of their sacrifice to ensure that security, peace, unity and eventually progress is maintained in the society, we that are alive are greatly challenged to remember this day by way of thanking them by way of continuous donation in cash and kind to assist the families, relations and other dependants left behind.
“Assist their relations by way of employing or impacting skills to the dependants of these fallen heroes.
“Engaging members of the Nigerian Legion to render relevant services, especially following the events and happenings in the society that has presented a very uncomfortable security situation in the society to the extent that Reds are beaming daily in the environment, and its surroundings.
“Praying to Allah/God to see members of the Nigerian Legion through these rough, tough and hard times as they struggle to coordinate activities for and behalf of the fallen heroes.
“Lovers of the fallen heroes, Nigerian Legion and Gombe, may I pinpoint that the assistance is not just for this day, but it has to be continuous and always in our mind.”
On his part, State Chairman Gombe Legion Sgt. Adamu Dogo (retd.), called for the remembrance of survivors and their dependants with the purpose of assisting them.
He commended the government’s N5m support, “In the next four years Nigerian Legion will continue to enjoy your good leadership inshallah. The Nigerian Legion are grateful about the opportunity to perform security duties in 12 schools in the state for 20 years without problem,” Dogo said.
