WPHF, UN Women, Iwuese move to ensure financial stability for displaced women, girls in Taraba

In a bid to ensure financial stability for displaced women, girls and refugees in Taraba and Adamawa State, the Women Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF), with technical support from UN women in partnership with Iwuese Multipurpose Cooperative Society (IMCS) has commenced training of 40 women in Savings and Loans in Taraba State.
Executive Director of IMCS, Ms. Ritdimwa Doofan Orga while addressing beneficiaries during a meeting for the establishment of Village Savings and Loan Association in Dan-Anacha, Gassol Local Government area of the state said the aim was to help the women with money saving skills inorder to ensure financial stability for the women.
She explained that a similar meeting was held in Jalingo and the Village Savings and Loan Association established for the women who are going to be meeting once every week.
“As IDP returnees, this savings and loan will help you save money that will eventually help you to solve problems without necessarily depending on your husbands or relatives.
“The Village Savings and Loans Association is going to give you a special identity in your various communities. It will also give you a special status and a prominent role in problem solving and decision-making in your communities.
“I urge you to take advantage of the opportunity of this Village Savings and Loans training present so as to become wealth creators and peace builders in your communities.
“I am happy to inform you that the Taraba State Ministry of Women Affairs are supporting this project and have appointed a Liaison officer to work with us to add value by building and strengthening your skill capacity. This is a six weeks training and I encourage you to participate in all the training sessions throughout the training period,”she said.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Linda Tordue commended Iwuese Multipurpose Cooperative Society, WPHF and UN Women for the training and pledged their support for the success of the programme, saying the knowledge gained will help them to become financially stable.
