The Peoples Democratic Party has won 17 of the 23 constituencies in the results of Saturday’s State House of Assembly election collated by their returning officers and announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday.

 

Only the Ogbia Constituency 2 election had not been concluded following the violence that broke out on election day as some hoodlums suspected to be party thugs hijacked and burnt voting materials meant for wards two, three, four and five in the area.

 

According to the results released through the office of INEC’s Head of Publicity and Voter Education in Yenagoa, Wilfred Ifogah, the All Progressives Congress and the All Progressives Grand Alliance also clinched four and two constituency seats, respectively.

 

However, the assembly polls recorded some upsets as some incumbent PDP lawmakers were defeated by candidates of the opposition parties.

 

The third-term seeking Chief Whip of the legislature, Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai (Yenagoa 2), who scored 4,593 votes and lost her seat to the APGA’s Amakoromo Waikumo, who polled 5, 971 to emerge winner.

 

A two-term PDP legislator, Ebi Ben-Ololo (Nembe 1), who was seeking re-election got 2, 356 votes to be defeated by APGA’s Oteigbanyo George-Barah who garnered 2,928 votes to clinch the seat.

 

In Nembe 2, Edward Brigidi of the APC clinched the seat with 1,651 votes to defeat Action Alliance’s Joel Francis and ADC’s Amiefamonyo Frederick who scored 16 votes each; while Douglas Sampson also of the APC won Nembe 3 with 1367 votes.

 

In Brass 3, Timi Omubo-Agala, also of the APC, retained his seat for Brass 2 with 3, 175 votes to beat his closest rival, PDP’s Adigio Austin who scored 1, 342 votes. But PDP’s Charles Daniel got re-elected with 4116 votes to retain Brass 1.

 

The Southern Ijaw 4 seat was won by APC’s Victor-Ben Selekaye, who polled 5,230 votes to defeat the incumbent Macdonald Igbadiwei of the PDP, who scored 5,114 votes, to fail to return to the House.

 

However, the Speaker of the 24-member Bayelsa Assembly, Abraham Ingobere of the PDP won Brass 3 for a fourth term, polling 5, 937 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Oberiakumo Yousuo of the APC, who scored 981 votes.

 

In Ogbia 1, Richard Ibegu of the PDP won the election with 5, 632 votes while Michael Ogbara, also of the PDP, was re-elected for Ogbia 3 with 5, 597 votes.

 

In Yenagoa 1, the PDP’s Egba Ayibanengiyefa won with 14,369 votes while Ted Elemeforo polled 4, 206 votes to get re-elected for Yenagoa 3.

 

Kolokuma-Opokuma 1 was won by Werinipre Pamoh of the PDP with 7, 536 votes defeating Appah Suoyo of APGA who polled 1, 474 votes and APC’s Duabofa Duopamo got 1, 314 votes; while Wisdom Fafi of the PDP was re-elected for Kolokuma-Opokuma 2 with 6, 708 votes.

 

In Sagbama 1 Godbless Onyinke of PDP was re-elected with 9633 votes; Bernard Kenebai also of the PDP, won Sagbama 2 for a third-term with 5, 780 votes while Ebizi Brown also of the PDP clinched Sagbama 3 with 6,426 votes.

 

Tare Porri of the PDP was re-elected for Ekeremor 1 with 4, 216 votes; Mitin Living of PDP also won Ekeremor 2 with 9, 067 votes votes while Ogbere Michael of PDP retained the Ekeremor 3 seat with 3, 912 votes.

 

In Southern Ijaw 1, Felix Bonny-Ayah of PDP got re-elected with 6,956 votes just as Moses Marlon of PDP was also re-elected for Southern Ijaw 3 with 4, 759 votes; and the Leader of the House, Bubou-Monday Obolo was re-elected for third tenure with 4, 228 votes.
