Gombe United FC Suffers 2-0 Defeat
Gombe United failed to a 2-0 defeat during its Sunday encounter with Plateau United in the Nigerian Premier Football League, match day 10 played at the Jos new stadium.
Debuntant Paul Obata, could have put Gombe United in front in the 26′ when Usman Abbas, connected him after a nice interplay and Obata, who controlled the ball inside the box before facing the goalkeeper only for him to blast off the post.
The Savannah Scorpions despite dictating the pace in the first half trailed the hosts in the 31′ minutes as Izuchukwu gave the hosts the lead.
There was an appeal for penalty in the 42′ when Izuchukwu Chimezie, hacked down Umar Ahmed, as he tried to dribble past him inside the box but was overlooked by the referee despite the protest from the players.
In the 55′, coach Aliyu Zubairu made a tactical substitutions as he introduced two newly recruits: Wasiu Mamuda and Matthias Samuel for Paul Obata and Aminu Mohammed.
The Savannah Scorpions had another goal opportunity in the 57′ as Ahmed Family’ diving header was blocked by goalkeeper Suraj and Anayo Ogbonna, who followed up rebound tapped the ball which hit the bar.
In the 82′, Gombe United introduced debutant Igbudu Apam for Anayo Ogbonna and Abba Maigari for Taiye Yusuf in an effort to turn around the game, however, the visitors increased their tally to two in the 86′.
In a post match interview, Gombe United’s Technical Adviser Aliyu Zubairu, said the election break has impact on his game plan and his side failed to utilised pocket of goal chances especially in the first half.
Zubairu expressed optimism that Gombe United will end the season above relegation zone as they turned their attention to their next fixture.
The Savannah Scorpions will keep a date with Kwara United on Wednesday 29/3/23 at the Pantami stadium in the week 11 fixture.
