#GombeGuberPoll: Checkpoints within remain dismantled – CP

Gombe State Commissioner of Police Oqua Etim, on Thursday said no going back on the dismantled checkpoints within the state.
Etim, made this disclosure while replying to questions from heads of political parties, during an emergency meeting organised by Independent National Electoral Commission in collaboration with Inter-agency consultative committee on election security.
Our Correspondent reports that candidates of All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party and Action Alliance Muhammadu Yahaya, Muhammad Barde and Nuhu Miller respectively, were among attendants at the meeting.
According to him, strategic checkpoints which served as boundaries into the state operated by military would not be affected, adding that only the ones within controlled by police are dismantled.
He said, “Strategic checkpoints manned by the military still intact. Checkpoints manned by the police have been pulled back. We have deployed our men to do vehicular patrols. Security issues are always reviewed if we have need to we will as for now roadblocks remain dismantled.”
While urging politicians to ensure that their supporters are moved closer to their polling units, said there would not be free flow of movement during the poll period.
“I want to quickly add, By Friday midnight all roads will be blocked, so if you have supporters living far away from where their polling units are they should be advised to relocate and stay close by there won’t be free movement for people moving from one place to another on the excuse that my polling unit is at that location,” Etim added.
On his part, Gombe Resident Electoral Commissioner Ibrahim Umar, commended some of the candidates present for availing themselves the opportunity to discuss the heightened political tensions in the state.
