Gov Election: Muhammadu Yahaya re-elected in Gombe

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Muhammadu Yahaya, winner of Saturday’s gubernatorial election held in Gombe State.
Yahaya, polled 342,821 to emerge winner, having defeated his closest challenger and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party Muhammad Barde, who scored 233,131 and New Nigeria Peoples Party Khamisu Mailantarki who recorded 19,861.
Announcing the result at the collation office, the State returning officer Professor Maimuna Waziri, who doubles as the Vice Chancellor Federal University Gashua, Yobe State, said the APC candidate emerged winner having polled the highest votes cast in the gubernatorial election.
Our correspondent reports that out of 11 Local Government Areas Barde, won two, while the governing All Progressives Congress cleared nine others to emerge victorious.
The winner emerged with 109,609 votes difference to emerge.
“That Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of the All Progressives Congress, APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Waziri said.
According to the returning officer, Gombe has 1,575,794 registered voters, 618,231 were accredited, adding that 605,355 amounted to the total valid votes, while 11390 was voided with 616,745 as total votes cast.
Based on the results earlier announced for Gombe LGA APC scored 58,645, while candidate of the PDP scored 31605, and NNPP recorded 4878. For Kwami LGA APC won by 33,956, while PDP scored 17,454 and NNPP 1087; Yalmatu Deba APC won with 43,981, PDP had 28538 and NNPP recorded 2320; Funakaye LGA APC scored 30,371, PDP recorded 17,332 and NNPP 606; Akko LGA APC scored 50,919, PDP scored 36759 and NNPP recorded 2,953.
Others are; Shongom LGA, APC scored 14,752, PDP scored 23,066, NNPP polled 3421; Nafada LGA APC scored 15,025, PDP scored 9378, and NNPP recorded 411; Balanga LGA APC scored 25,341, PDP recorded 20085, NNPP polled 1130; Dukku LGA APC won with 35,207, PDP scored 14,181, and NNPP recorded 1079; Kaltungo LGA APC scored 21015, PDP won with 21,321 and NNPP recorded 1129; Billiri LGA APC recorded 14,752, PDP won with 23,066 and NNPP polled 3421.
