INEC declares PDP candidate, Fubara winner of Rivers gov election
The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Siminialayi Funara, as winner of the 2023 Governorship election in Rivers State.
The State INEC Returning Officer, Prof Akpofura Rim-rukeh made the declaration at the end of collation of results from the 23 local government areas of the state.
Fubura was declared winner after he polled a total of 302,614, winning all 23 LGAs in the state.
The All Progressives Congress candidate, Tonye Cole came a distant second with a total of 95, 274 votes
The Social Democratic Party candidate, Magnus Abe and the candidate of the Labour Party, Mrs Beatrice Itubo came third and fourth with 46,981 and 22, 224 votes respectively.
Prof Rim-rukeh who is also the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Petroleum, Effurun, Delta State thereafter called on the various party agents to sign the result before declaring the winner.
He stated, “I, Professor Akpofura Rim-rukehm Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Petroleum Resources hereby declare the results of the 2023 Governorship election held on the 18th of March, 2023.
He then gave the parties results as follows:

“That Fubara Siminialayi of the PDP having scored the highest votes and have the certified percent spread with satisfactory margin of lead, having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” he stated.
The declaration was not without some drama, as party agents from the Labour party, SDP protested the outcome of the elections, describing it as sham and shame to democracy and called for the cancellation of the entire poll.
But the returning officer had advised them to note their reservations and channeled them appropriately with evidence.
