IWD: Gombe ministry trains 300 women on curbing malnutrition – Commissioner

No fewer than 300 women have been equipped with requisite knowledge towards ensuring the state is rid off malnutrition.
Malnutrition is adjudged one of the cause of under five deaths among children, with states looking inward towards tackling the scourge beyond Ready to Use Therapeutic Foods to complementary feeding.

Disclosing this on Wednesday during a briefing to commemorate International Women’s Day, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development Naomi Awak, said it was based on the collaboration of her ministry and that of Science, Technology and Innovation.
Our Correspondent reports that this year’s theme is “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for gender equality.”
The Commissioner said, “We have been partnering with Ministry of Science and Technology in order to train 300 women on scientifically proven food towards eradicating malnutrition in children that is where we have the Inuwa Gida Gida food plan.”
Speaking further about the importance of making the girl child technologically savvy, the Commissioner noted that their exposure have positive contributions to Nation building, beyond healthy food consumption.
“Women and girls are shapers of an equal future. The more they are included in the creation of technology, the less vulnerable they will be – and the more all of society will benefit. Whether the intention behind new technologies is good or bad, when poorly designed tech meets gender inequality, harm can follow.
“This can take the form of image-based abuse, extortion, harassment, hate speech, cyber bullying and dozing.
Technology is essential to advancing gender equality. When women and girls can access and use technology safely, they can amplify their voices and exercise their agency and autonomy – giving them a platform that can transform their future and ours,” Awak said.
