Kano APC gives INEC seven days to review results
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, in last Saturday’s Kano election, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, on Tuesday in Kano, rejected the Guber results, insisting that the Independent National Electoral Commission, should have declared the exercise inconclusive.
The governorship candidate, accompanied by party leaders, expressed surprise that with the same election, 16 of the House of Assembly elections held same day and same conditions were declared inconclusive by the electoral umpire, INEC.
It should be recalled that INEC on Monday morning, declared Abba Kabiru Yusuf, of the NNPP, winner of the Kano governorship election held on Saturday.
In the same vein, the APC has rejected the announcement of Abba Kabir Yusif of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, as winner of the just concluded governorship election in Kano and called for the immediate review of the election result by INEC within seven days.
The Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Abbas made the disclosure to newsmen at an emergency press conference, held at the APC’s gubernatorial campaign office in Kano, on Tuesday.
Represented by the party’s legal adviser, Abdul Adamu Fagge, the APC insisted that the election should be declared inconclusive pointing out that the cancelled votes were greater than the margin between the first and the second parties of NNPP and APC respectively, as provided by the Electoral Act.
Also, the party drew the attention of INEC to the cancellation of 16 House of Assembly elections in the state, citing violence, as the reason, while the same votes were considered in collating the governorship election.
To this extent, the party expressed dismay over the declaration, emphasizing that the two elections were held on same day, same time, and same place and under the same circumstances.
