Police release Labour Party Gombe Guber candidate
….. LP, PDP trade words in Billiri
The Gombe State Police command on Friday released Keftin Amuga, Governorship candidate of the Labour Party.
Disclosing this to our correspondent in a chat, Public Relations Officer ASP Mahid Mua’zu Abubakar, said Amuga has been released.
Abubakar who did not disclose the reason, Amuga was arrested said,”He (Amuga), was brought from Billiri division but has been released.”
A source who begged for anonymity said Amuga was detained at the police CID department for some hours, before he was released.
Earlier, The Gombe State Labour party alleged that its party faithful in Billiri local government area has been abducted, molested and beaten to pulp on the orders of the PDP gubernatorial candidate’s running mate Timothy Danlele, barely 24 hours to the polls.
Reacting to the attack, Hon. Keftin Amuga said “I strongly condemn the abduction, and attack on my party faithfuls in Billiri on the orders of the running mate to PDP’s candidate in the state.”
He alleged the running mate to the gubernatorial candidate of PDP was colluding with the Divisional police officer (DPO) in Billiri.
The gubernatorial candidate for Labour party said he was informed that a Hilux picked up a party faithful in Kalmai in Billiri and was whisked to the resident of the running mate to PDP’s candidate who accused the Labour party loyalist of being in possession of INEC’s electoral material.
The gubernatorial candidate for Labour party said if not for his interventions, the police had leveled frivolous allegations against his party loyalist who was mobbed and rather than take him to the hospital, he was detained on Thursday night.
The gubernatorial candidate further called for calm from party faithful and urged the commissioner of police to take urgent steps to address the issue.
