We’ll get our mandate in Ikom – APC Deputy Chair
The Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Cross River State, Prince Eka Williams, says the party would institute legal action against Peoples Democratic Party candidate Mr. Samuel Neji Abang, winner of the House of Assembly seat for Ikom 1 State Constituency.
According to Williams, the marginal victory of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Ikom 1 State Constituency is a “pyrrhic victory”, that cannot withstand legal scrutiny.
He alleged that there were irregularities in two wards in Ofutop and some polling units in Ikom Urban that led INEC to declare candidate of the PDP as winner of the election.
“We were able to dismantle PDP’s rigging machinery led by two PDP Chieftans in the Akparabong Ward.
“They compromised INEC officials and attempted to hide electoral materials but we caught them and insisted that the elections must be held in accordance with the rules and we defeated them roundly in Akparabong Ward,” he alleged.
“We ‘ll meet them in court to challenge this victory. It cannot stand. Comrade Agbor Bassey of the APC whose mandate was stolen will reclaim his mandate in court,” he said.
Reacting, PDP candidate and winner of the election, Mr. Samuel Neji Abang denied the allegations, insisting that he won the election without rigging.
“The APC Deputy Chairman’s claims are baseless, spoken out of malice and lies,” Abang said.
