Ahmadu Fintiri of PDP wins Adamawa Guber poll
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party was on Tuesday declared winner of the 2023 supplementary elections.
Fintiri polled 430,861 votes to defeat his closest challenger Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani, of the All Progressives Congress who scored 398,788.
Our correspondent reports that this declaration by Independent National Electoral Commission Returning Officer Professor Mohammed Lamido Mele, brings an end to the tussle which characterised the Adamawa election.
On Sunday morning the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner Hudu Yunusa, proclaimed that Binani had won the poll which was countered by PDP’s agent Dr Idi Hong and many others.
Announcing the result Mele said Fintiri having polled the highest votes cast, “Is returned elected as Governor of Adamawa State,” he said.
On Monday, Binani urged the court to force INEC to stay action on her previous declaration by Yunusa, the embattled REC.
Also on Monday, Governor-elect of Oyo State Seyi Makinde, during his solidarity visit to Adamawa State urged INEC to do the right thing, while frowning at the illegal declaration by Yunusa.
