Increased FP uptake: Expert commends Gombe MWG

The Director of Community and Family Health; Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency Gombe, Dr Maryam Abubakar, has commended the efforts of the Gombe State Media Working Group, towards the dissemination of information especially in creating awareness on the importance of child spacing.

The Director gave the commendation during the first quarterly meeting of MWG at Whitehill Hotel Gombe.
Abubakar, who was represented by the State Mobilisation Officer; Salau Malami, said the media in the state has done remarkably well in increasing FP uptake.

Also speaking, Gombe State Family Planning Coordinator, Mrs Grace Mabudi, explained the importance of the 35 million Naira approved by the Gombe State Government for the procurement of the commodities, adding that it confirms the seriousness attached by the current administration to child spacing.
She added that the involvement of men in FP activities had improved acceptance, thereby increasing the uptake which Mabudi adjudged as now encouraging.
Also, Director of Nursing Services Ministry of Health, Ronas Saleh Tula, also explained that no one was asked to stop giving birth but the emphasis is rather on spacing.
She noted that natural methods may be tricky and may not be trusted, suggesting the need to devise ways of sharing messages to hard-to-reach areas.
On his part, The Challenge Initiative Programme Manager; Yakubu Abubakar, disclosed that soon TCI would graduate the state, he, therefore, urged the media working group to get registered into becoming a viable entity.
Our correspondent reports that the Chairperson; Rebecca Maina, delivered a paper on “The use of Gender lens in Family Planing Story telling.
Maina urged members to pitch stories from the prism of gender, adding that it drives home the message.
She commended TCI for the partnership and support, lauding the stakeholders for their usual cooperation.
